Seriously I'm a bit concerned about this. I read online some pizza place is in deep trouble for putting stickers on pennies to raise money for some charity..................... the person from the "mint" said "it's against the law to deface any us currency in any means..especially for promotion or profit"..

Under Title 18, Section 333, this is legal to do.

Defacement of Currency

Defacement of currency is a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the  United States Code. Under this provision, currency defacement is  generally defined as follows: Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures,  perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any  bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any  national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve  System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall  be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or  both.
So what we're doing, you can reuse the money, it's no being made unfit to be reissued.

Maybe I've got too much faith in Treasure and TT, but I couldn't imagine him setting up a brand new website/idea without checking out whether or not his concept was even legal :P

That's what I explained to Misty earlier.  As long as the bill is still fit for use, you're ok.  If writing on a bill alone were illegal, the members of Where's George would have been jailed many years ago.
