Ridiculous. Hey school...how about focusing on the bullying that goes on in schools? Or on the substance abuse? Or the earlier and earlier sexual activity among students? Or the level at which 4-year-olds are reading? Or one of the other 100,000 topics that are much more important than the length of the kid's hair?

Poor kid. I can't believe the amount of time, energy, and resources that this school is spending on a topic so benign. Again, ridiculous.

I agree with you, what a waste of time and recourses.  The fact that they will seperate him from the other students would be alot more distracting or the fact that this is all over the news.  Why make a big deal over nothing.

That's horrible. I think if that's what makes the kid happy, then let him be. It's a lot easier to learn when you're happy and feel comfortable in your environment. How is that kid going to feel if he gets expelled or segregated from his peers?

That is probably the most ridiculous thing I have read in ages. I agree w/everyone else.. is there not more important stuff the school should be concerned about other then the length of a child's hair? What's it thier business? Teenagers go to school w/it colores/standing up on end.. or as what is fashionable today.......... same hair that little guy had. Truly a sad affair when a school focus' on your "looks".. not the education their suppose to be providing.

I can't see the whole story.  Is it a private or public school?  Is it listed in the dress code?  Have there been prior conferences/notes about a dress code violation if that's the case?

I'm not saying this issue should even really be an issue.  However, if it's in the dress code, I can see enforcing it, although I think it's dumb to be in the dress code (especially if it's a public school.)

Maybe they think all that hair is affecting his learning ability .. I dunno. I thought it was kinda kewt myself and very much "in".. however when my son was small like that I kept him looking like a little boy.

And this is why after this school year is up, my children will be home schooled...There is more and more crap like this everyday on the news, and my children will have no part of the ignorance!  I remember in school, they used to teach us that "beauty is on the inside"  What do they possibly think they are teaching this little boy??  It is SICKENING to me the way society comes up with ways to MAKE people fit in!

I hope there's more on this story. I would like to keep up on how the parent's battle is going. Surely this is one that unquestionably the parents would be in the right??

I know when we lived in Georgia 2 years ago they passed a law that the boys can't wear their pants around their hips or butt cheeks. Kids didn't care... but I'm not interested in the color of their underwear or discovering if their wearing boxers or briefs! I think to a point society dictating what is appropriate is ok.. but hair? Most schools have some sort of dress codes. I just looked at the dress codes for 4 different schools here and there is no mention of hair or hair style..

absolutely absurd.. I hope we learn more.
